On the Web, the fashion in sites design was sober and clean, today they become again heavier and flashing. Social networks have lost some appeal and the public returned to the classic information sites.

Google has expanded its system of spying on all Internet sites using its advertising.

Create a contact page in PHP

If you have a web site, you probably want to allow visitors to contact you. But without reveal your electronic address.

Of course, it can easily fall in the robots hands which scan the web to make listings. Then your box would be full of spams!

The solution is a contact page, where people can send a message to you without seeing your e-mail directly.

Refused from PayPerPost

PayPerPost is a company which offers sponsored articles to bloggers.

With some big differences from the paid posts we have in France. The articles can be very numerous, you can nearly have a entire blog fulled with sponsored posts and publish 3 per day (at the beginning)! The counterpart is the offered sums are very low ($5 to $10).

I don't know in the rest of Europe, but in France, we are paid from 30€ to 100€, for blogs like mine with 500-1000 visitors a day.

As I don't know other anglophon service, I wanted to subscribe to PayPerPost for this English version of my site.

Of course, I read the terms: no racism, no violence, no pornography, etc... And our computer blog has been rejected!

Most searched terms in 2008

Yahoo just published its top 10 of the most searched words in the search engine during the year 2008.

Yahoo is mainly used in USA, so the research top 10 is very American. Google has won the war in a large part of the word (sadly, monopoles are never good).

The singer Britney Spears takes the first place.

In second place we find the wrestling with the term WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment) a show totally unknown outside USA. And Barack Obama the future president completes the podium.

Javascript comments check

By default in blogs, when we post an invalid comment (missing field, invalid e-mail...) we arrive on a error page. Unfortunately this method has the following disadvantages:

then visitors must go back to correct the comment.

HTML compliant Flash in TinyMCE and Wordpress

This plugin is no longer needed since the end of 2008 and the version 3.2.1 of TinyMCE, included in Wordpress 2.7.1!

Purists know that having a valid HTML code is very important not only to participate in the effort of standardization of the web, but also for referencing and compatibility with all browsers present or future.

The problem

Many CMS and blogs use the free WYSIWYG editor TinyMCE. Wordpress from version 2.5 includes the version 3 of this editor which generate HTML code entirely valid except for Flash and videos (Real, WMV, Quicktime)!

English version of the site

Pffff, I has worked hard (I need to congratulate myself!). I prepared an English language version of Azur Dev computer news & web tutorials.

I'm not sure azure.ironie.org is very anglophone, but as I'm locked on the ironie.org, azure is the translation of azur, and moreover the final e is like the e of English (but undoubtedly I am the only one to see it!).

The goal is to translate only the articles which can interest the rest of the world. Some news I publish are too French. I hope that this translation will attract more visitors than the French site. Answer in a few weeks...

The good HTML code to insert Flash

I must admit we are not helped, everywhere we can share Flash animations or videos, the code they give is wrong. Except a few passioned developpers, most people copy-paste the given code even without knowing the element does not exist in HTML!

Moreover, the correct code is simpler and shorter.

Wordpress 2.6 : patch for files storage

Yesterday I update my blog from Wordpress 2.5 to 2.6. There are not as much changes than between 2.3 and 2.5, just some small upgrade and especially a engine optimization.

Indeed, it seems faster to me, but it may be a psychological effect!

Just after this update, I had a bad surprise when posting the article about EeeBox. The images doesn't work, because it searched them in the default directory (/wp-content/uploads/) instead of reading my value to store files (/files/).

Bloggers arrested in China

China never be a good model of freedom of speech. We could think that with the Olympic Games in Beijing, the chinese government would make an effort, but it's the contrary.

The arrestations of bloggers fighting for human rights reach records. At least 64 people (known, undoubtedly much are kept under silence) were put to jail since 2003. The mean duration of the sentence is 15 months!

Switch from RSS to Atom feeds

What we generally call RSS feeds can be in fact feeds from different formats: RSS 1 (or 0.9), RSS 2 or Atom.

The last one has an advantage (very important for a real geek) on the RSS format: it's not proprietary and supported by the W3C. Moreover it brings additional elements for more content.

This is the english version of Azur Dev, a french site about computer and PHP news, with some pieces of fun.

«Hello world» is the expression usually dedicated to test the printing in programming. This is often the first words said by a newborn application!
